* * * Melbourne Heart Football Club has been announced as the winners of the Club of the Year award for the second consecutive year from the Football Media Association (FMA).
“The football media’s ability to do our job is greatly assisted by a professional relationship with the clubs, FFA and others involved in football,” said FMA President Ray Gatt from The Australian.
A-League clubs were assessed by FMA members on the basis of five criteria:
having a welcoming environment for media representatives
responding efficiently and effectively to media requests
providing accurate and timely information
interacting effectively through traditional, digital and social media, and
valuing a professional relationship between club and media in advancing the competition and football.
“Media relations is a key ingredient of the overall engagement with the community, as well as corporate and other partners,” Gatt said.
“We are impressed by Melbourne Heart’s demonstrated willingness to be cooperative and go the extra mile, even when it may be a news issue not to their liking.
“It is the basis of a good and respectful relationship and we congratulate all at Melbourne Heart – from Scott Munn, John Aloisi, the players and Julius Ross for their efforts. It also says a lot about the club's culture and the leadership of Scott Munn that Melbourne Heart has won this award for two consecutive years."
Melbourne Heart received votes from FMA members around Australia. Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers completed the top three in the voting.
“The reason for this award is to encourage all A-League clubs to continually improve and upgrade their media output and performance, just as we have seen so many clubs do this past season,” Gatt said.
The A-League Club of the Year award was presented to Melbourne Heart by FMA member, and Board Member of Football Federation Victoria in Melbourne on 24 April.
